Day 8 Thinking about 'What are your dreams? and What I will do next ...'

 Tuesday was a very interesting opportunity for us all to look forward to what we hope the FAD course will bring us closer to.


We got the chance to look at particular differences and crossovers between  Design & Media , Craft and Fine Art.

Although there are crossovers and Agencies that work across barriers  it can be helpful to recognise that there are inherent differences and sectors. The diagram below shows some thoughts on the main attributes  of the divisions and crossovers  identified by us as a  group (3 of us).

 We had the chance to look at where we would like to progress at the ned of the course accepting in this that we are near the start and our ambitions could change as more is revealed. 

The point was made that CityLit's  department have lots of different skills and we can call on these for advice and help - I was interested to hear about other City Lit's classes including Animation courses -  which I may  look into for next year.

I feel that in my particular situation a further degree is not appropriate  and I am quite lucky to be where I do not have too many pressures that will stop me pursing my selected path - I have identified a desire for a nice working place (studio?) and would welcome chance to be involved with other people's projects and co-operative endeavours.

I am in a position where I have the chance to help Art locally through OPEN Ealing (as a Board Member)  and volunteer at the V&A which enables interactions as well as learning opportunities with others. 

We had some tasks identified around work to submit, an outline on the Dystopia/Utopia project and analysis of 2 or 3 artists careers  that we should focus on.

 This week I have started a course at CityLit London that's about Art and Design, the course runs for an academic year and is 3 days per week. Day 11 - a bit of colour

Colour is a complex matter, a science  as well as part of art. When we look at an area of colour it can be described as being made up of 3 variables  Light is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum that humans perceive (via Rods and Cones in their eyes) in a particular way. Numbers can be apportioned to give a defined colour via    Hue -  the attribute of a colour by virtue of which it is discernible as red, green, etc., and which is dependent on its dominant wavelength and independent of intensity or lightness Tone  - this  refers to the relative lightness or darkness of a colour. One colour can have an almost infinite number of different tones and  Saturation  refers to the intensity of a colour. 18 -Last Friday, more Editing

An image from Dresden Dynamo   Last week in the Moving image session we were shown a piece of work that was created in the days of 16mm (this film format is still around but less common these days)the work we saw was 'Dresden Dynamo ' by the experimental film maker Lis Rhodes and was made 1971-72. (More about Liz Rhodes here )  Liz explains the way the Sound track was created  and the reason for it's unpredictability and other-worldliness here. The image is read by an optical sound head and this is not the usual way (normally a distinct  separate sound track of audio/music would be recorded ) conversely the pattern and shapes in Liz's film correspond with the soundtrack so we see the sound and here the pictures.
