Day 66 -Core Writing, describing and pitching and Rod's book

 This weeks' core was about how words can be used and also Rod provided an insight into the enterprise behind his book - which seemed to be quite a mixed experience for him.


Artists often struggle to 'sell' ideas or themselves - imposter syndrome can loom large.


Practice and input from friends will help - manage your emotions as best you can.

The start days 1 and 2

 This week I have started a course at CityLit London that's about Art and Design, the course runs for an academic year and is 3 days per week. CityLit is an institution that offers many opportunities for adult learning one of the big assets is the teaching which is conducted by people who have a real life history in the topics they teach in - I started the part 1 of the course pre pandemic and here is a link to a post from early 2020 On this website I will reflect on the learning and experience, what approaches were taken, feedback from the group  and the way I felt about various aspects of the topic. Day 38 - Specialism Sculpture and British Museum

British Museum Courtyard The second option I chose as  a specialisms   after  Vis Com  was  Sculpture  and for the first part of our initial day we checked out some of the Sculpture at London's British Museum this gave context and a chance to see how some of the practical obstacles have been handled in the past. Ute the teacher gave us some tasks which included looking at Egyptian, African and Greek work and to make some drawings too. Egyptian  Ute had suggested we consider how this would look if the dark and light were inverted A lot of the original remains  Ute also mentioned a nearby public work 'Chain of events' (1996) by Peter Randall- Page  In the afternoon Ute introduced us to some of the  projects we can work on - and we thought about some of the points that we might consider with public works we were looking at. Hokusai and Bamboo

 On Wednesday I met a friend to take a look around British Museum's, it's called  The Great Picture Book of Everything  - which could be over playing it a bit but it does seem that in the Japan of his time he was pretty one of the go-to-guys for illustrating books There's a lot of stuff that I got from the exhibition including that not having seen various things in the flesh does not rule out making illustrations (various animals). The exhibition is of material held by the British Museum and chronologically visitors can see the work of the artist developing.  Of course much as Mona Lisa dictates a certain link with Leonardo Da Vinci so 'The Great Wave is forever Hokusai - There are quite a number of prints from the blocks of the famous woodcuts The British Museum has 3 of them and the vintage of them can be seen by the quality of the print (older ones have bits missing) Craft Week  After Design week it' time for the Artisans and London had a week of craft kicking of
