Day 11 - a bit of colour

Colour is a complex matter, a science  as well as part of art. When we look at an area of colour it can be described as being made up of 3 variables  Light is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum that humans perceive (via Rods and Cones in their eyes) in a particular way. Numbers can be apportioned to give a defined colour via    Hue -  the attribute of a colour by virtue of which it is discernible as red, green, etc., and which is dependent on its dominant wavelength and independent of intensity or lightness Tone  - this  refers to the relative lightness or darkness of a colour. One colour can have an almost infinite number of different tones and  Saturation  refers to the intensity of a colour. All I've got is a photograph (day 3)

 On Friday we spent time in the Room 405 looking in particular at photography. First we looked at lighting of objects which we'll need to do to document our efforts - the item we worked with was a pair of sunglasses and we used paper to create 'infinity' - here are a few examples of the results of moving lights and camera angles.  Here there been adjustments made to compensate for an overly warm temperature from the lighting. Next we looked at work and quotes from those working in photography 'Reportage'  including Dorothea Lange (famous for her dustbowl photo's of Depression USA) , Don McCullin principally a war photographer with a focus on people  and Martin Parr who is known for his pictures of contemporary Britain unlike the first two who tend to be associated with Black & White  he works mainly with colour.  We were given two exercises to complete, taking pictures in London where 20 shots  in a theme and some reportage shots too. Day 66 -Core Writing, describing and pitching and Rod's book

 This weeks' core was about how words can be used and also Rod provided an insight into the enterprise behind his book - which seemed to be quite a mixed experience for him. Artists often struggle to 'sell' ideas or themselves - imposter syndrome can loom large. Practice and input from friends will help - manage your emotions as best you can.
